Cornea
A cornea shaped like a cone, not a dome
The clear front window of the eye should curve evenly. In keratoconus it thins and pushes forward, so the picture arrives smeared. Numbers change often and glasses stop helping.

What the doctor says
“Cross-linking stops it. It does not sharpen it.”

- You need two maps months apart to prove the cone is moving.
- Hard or scleral lenses often give sharp sight with no operation.
- Stop rubbing your eyes. That one habit changes the speed.
The filmed clip is being recorded. The words above are the same points the doctor makes on camera.

Two different jobs
- Stopping it getting worse. Cross-linking stiffens the cornea with vitamin drops and a light. It holds the shape. It does not make you see better.
- Seeing better today. Hard or scleral contact lenses smooth the surface and often give sharp sight without any operation.
Mixing these up is how people end up paying for the wrong thing.
When cross-linking is worth it
- Maps taken months apart show the cone is steepening
- You are young, and young eyes change faster
- The cornea is still thick enough to treat safely
A single map cannot show change. If nobody has an older scan to compare, ask what the rush is.
Transplant is the last step
Most people with keratoconus never need one. It is for corneas that are scarred or too steep for any lens to sit on. Waiting for that stage is not a failure, and rushing there is not a shortcut.
Go to an eye hospital today if
- Sudden fog, pain and heavy watering in one eye
- A white patch appearing on the front of the eye
Please stop rubbing your eyes
Hard rubbing pushes the cone forward. If itching drives it, treat the allergy. This one habit changes how fast the condition moves.
